Ways to reduce concerns about school during COVID-19

We anxiously await to learn when schools will reopen.  We may be stressed about how we will keep up with school work.  If you are in grade 12, you will wonder what will happen to prom and to graduation.   School disruptions and disruptions to our routine can trigger stress and anxiety for us kids.  These are uncertain times and no one really knows how long the pandemic will last.
 
There are some things you can do if you are concerned about missing school during COVID-19:
 
1. Check you school’s website for updates on closures and cancellations
2. Take advantage of online opportunities.  Learn how to use Zoom, google classroom and Cisco, etc.
3.  Structure your day similar to a school day
4.  Take recess and lunchbreaks and physical activity breaks
5.  Prioritize the number of  hours you have to spend on each subject per week
6.  Plan for virtual events like a class party, or prom or graduation
7.  Visit the government website for other e-learning opportunities 
8.   If you have siblings, work together to share your learning
9.  Take a break from school activities with relaxation, yoga or breathing exercises
10. Write a letter to your friends and peers and use humour or words of encouragement
11.  If you feel overwhelmed, reach out to a teacher, guidance counsellor, friend or to your parents
12.  Pace yourself and enjoy your learning
13.  Connect to your peers through virtual platforms such as social media, email, telephone, etc.
